一，明喻（simile）是以兩種具有相同特征的事物和現象進行對比，表明本體和喻體之間的相似關系，兩者都在對比中出現。常用比喻詞like, as, as if, as though等，例如：

這頭象和任何人見到的壹樣像壹條蛇。

二、隱喻（metaphor）這種比喻不通過比喻詞進行，而是直接將用事物當作乙事物來描寫，甲乙兩事物之間的聯系和相似之處是暗含的。

德國人的槍炮和飛機將炸彈、炮彈和子彈像暴雨壹樣傾瀉下來。

還有轉喻又稱為借代，轉喻和提喻很像，明喻和暗喻就比較簡單轉喻是兩者之間存在關聯，主要借助于密切的關系與聯想而提喻是用大代替小，小代替大比如：He is fond of the bottle.他喜歡喝酒.（用bottle裝酒的瓶子，表示wine,bottle和wine之間存在著密切的關系，這是轉喻）Outside,(there is) a sea of faces.外面街上，是人的海洋.（以人體的局部代全體，即以faces 表示people，以小代替大，局部代替整體，這是提喻）如果還不懂，可以在百度百科里面查下，都有講到兩者的區別。
