杭州以其美麗的西湖山水著稱于世，素有人間天堂的美譽，表達了古往今來的人們對于這座美麗城市的由衷贊美。元朝時曾被意大利著名旅行家馬可波羅贊為世界上最美麗華貴之城。宋代大文豪蘇東坡曾寫道：天下西湖三十六，就中最好是杭州。西湖擁有三面云山，一水抱城的自然風光，以欲把西湖比西子，淡妝濃抹總相宜的山水秀色，點綴杭州，吸引游客，撫慰眾生。
